Red Carpet-Ready Shapewear

Red-Carpet-Ready-Shapewear

It’s been 12 years (yes, 12!) since the original “Spanx” compression underwear first became the next big thing among celebrities. Endorsements from Hollywood A-Listers like Gwyneth Paltrow – who claimed shapewear helped her post-baby body look fantastic – made it suddenly OK to wear big pants under designer dresses.

In Hollywood, they call it “Undie Armour!”

Fast forward a decade and celebrities aren’t as vocal about it, probably because it’s not a novelty anymore. But it is most definitely still a necessity for those taking to the red carpets in evermore daring and body-skimming gowns.

With awards season in full flow we’ve seen a raft of couture creations on bodies that seem to defy time and gravity, but even the younger actresses are partaking in some “secret support.”

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom’s latest Instagram photo sent the celebrity website world into meltdown when she posted herself in squeezed into a corset and control shorts with the caption “I can’t breathe” in preparation for looking ravishing in her off-the-shoulder, body-skimming Christian Siriano gown at the Golden Globes.

The thing is, all of these celebrities have access to the latest fad diets, personal trainers and sometimes even private chefs (mmm, yum!) These are some of the fittest bodies on the planet! So they can’t possibly all need the support and body-slimming effects of control wear, but sometimes just knowing it’s there can boost confidence.

And that is why the phenomenon has become just as popular with regular lady bears as it is with the glitterati of Hollywood.

Support Wear

From post-baby support to everyday confidence under a work suit two-piece, some of our favourite brands like Sloggi make shapewear worth investing in, with a high content content, ‘corespun’ to sit super-close to the skin.

Control Pants

Our other friends at Triumph are the masters of making support sexy and their contouring panties range is no exception.

Sometimes us regular folk get the opportunity to dress up just like the red carpet stars do, and although we may want the same support, we don’t want a Bridget Jones moment when we take the dress off at the end of the night!

Do-It-Yourself and Mens Shapewear

It’s advised not to go the route of Kim Kardashian who, on her app, released her behind-the-scenes guide to lifting and shaping, consisting of strapping her body up with gaffer’s tape (ouch!)

Even the man-bears are getting in on the action, with American actor Neil Patrick Harris openly bragging about wearing a male version of support pants on the red carpet!
